Harnesses · size 2 – 6
The field harness the workshop was started to make. Five load points, 180 kg webbing, 310 grams in size 4.
Four dogs, four winters, one pattern. Sheltie in size 2, collie in size 3, labrador in size 4 and the bernese in size 6. None of these are our photographs of a new harness — they are the owners' dogs, in the gear they have had for between one and four years.
Measured, not claimed
Taken off a size 4 in hound tan, on the bench, with the hardware fitted. Other sizes move within the ranges given, and the figure that matters most to a pulling dog is the chest panel width rather than the break strength.
The same pattern in size 2. Every size keeps the panel proportion, so a small dog is not wearing a scaled-down version of a big dog's harness.
This is what the webbing looks like after roughly nine hundred hours of water work. Pale at the chest, the tape worn thin at the buckle, everything still rated.
Before you reserve
Everything below is also written on the card that comes in the box, so you do not have to find this page again in two years.
Go down, not up, unless the dog is still growing. The straps give 90 mm per side, so a snug size closes further; an oversized one never gets small enough and the chest plate rides into the shoulder.
€6.50 in Belgium and two working days. €9.50 and three to four days to the Netherlands, France and Germany. Over €120 it ships free. Collection at the workshop costs nothing and we set the straps on the dog while you wait.
Thirty days from delivery. Fit it indoors on a clean dry dog and walk it round the kitchen — that is enough to know. Once it has been outside on a wet lane we cannot resell it and the return is refused.
For a few kilometres a week, yes — the rear load point takes it. For a season of racing, the pull should come off a proper X-back and we do not make one. We will say so rather than sell you this.
Cold water, a brush and nothing else. No machine, no fabric softener — softener coats the webbing and the buckles start slipping under load within a month.
Send it back. Hardware swap €18, new chest panel €34, full re-webbing €58, three weeks either way. Most harnesses here are on their second set of straps and their first set of stitching.
If the girth tape makes you nervous, do not use one. Bring the dog to the bench on a Wednesday to Saturday and we will take the number, fit the harness and send you home in it.
